A pair of Hy-Vee items have been recalled due to the possibility of salmonella contamination.
Sending out a press statement on Monday, the West Des Moines-based firm announced the recall “out of an abundance of caution.”
What Hy-Vee cookies and cream mix products being recalled for salmonella risk?
Additionally, Hy-Vee is recalling large quantities of cookie and cream mix. They were offered for sale in 16 oz. or 4 oz. containers with the label “Hy-Vee To Go”.
The deadlines for both types are December 1, 2024, or December 5, 2024.

A Hy-Vee spokesperson told the Register that Palmer Candy, located in Sioux City, was the company that made the cookies and cream dessert. Palmer issued a recall announcement for items with white liquid coating at the beginning of this week in response to a possible salmonella contamination that was identified by the materials supplier. The confectionery firm recalled 29 products, including Cookies and Cream Yummy Chow.
This voluntary recall only applies to Hy-Vee cream cheese; bulk-packaged products are unaffected.
What is salmonella?
For small children or the elderly, salmonella can result in illnesses that are dangerous and can even be deadly. Those with weakened immune systems are also at risk.
Salmonella symptoms include:
- Fever
- Diarrhea (which could be bloody)
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Abdominal pain
Has there been any cases of salmonella from the products?
An announcement from Hy-Vee states that there have been no verified reports of sickness resulting from consuming any of these items. The Midwest-based third-party plants that produce both goods are distinct. After then, they are offered for sale under the Hy-Vee brand.
As soon as Hy-Vee received word from the third-party producer about the possible contamination of the items, they were recalled.
Where were the products sold in Hy-Vee?
Hy-Vee supplied the snack mix and cream cheese to eight different states. This covers shops in South Dakota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, and Iowa. They are available in Dollar Fresh Market, Hy-Vee Drugstore, and Hy-Vee shops. The items were also available in Hy-Vee Fast and Fresh convenience shops.
What should you do if you’ve purchased recalled Hy-Vee products?
As per the news release, Hy-Vee has voluntarily removed all the impacted goods from its shelves.
If you bought one of these goods, you may either return it to Hy-Vee for a complete refund or dispose of it.
