Permanently deleting your Plenty of Fish dating account can seem like a daunting task, but it’s easy to do and ensures that you won’t be able to come back if you change your mind. If you no longer feel like Plenty of Fish is the right dating site for you, this step-by-step guide will show you how to delete your account permanently and ensure that your profile, photos, and all other data are completely wiped from their servers forever so that your information doesn’t fall into the wrong hands.
Step 1: Locate the Data
If you don’t see an email address at the top, you will have to navigate the site looking for it. To find this information on a desktop computer, click on Haven’t logged in before? and then click on How do I change my password or username? In the next window select Yes when asked if you want help changing your password or username. The new window that pops up has two tabs. The first tab is username and under that you can change it from whatever it was set as originally. The second tab is password, and here enter a strong new password for your account–a different one than the one for other sites–and make sure that everything matches: lowercase letters, uppercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
Step 2: Submit the request
To fully remove all the information associated with your profile, visit the website and select ‘Delete My Account’. You will be prompted to enter your email address or username in order to proceed. You will then receive an email confirming that you’ve successfully terminated your POF account. Remember: Deleting a POF account is a permanent action, so there’s no going back once you do it!
POF will begin removing all data associated with your profile, and it can take up to 5 days. During that time, if you still want to terminate your account, log back into POF and select ‘Delete My Account’ again from underneath ‘My Settings’. You’ll need to enter your email address or username in order to confirm. Selecting ‘Delete My Account’ one more time will remove any remaining information about you from POF’s systems for good. Note: You may have noticed that each time you attempt a self-deletion on POF, you’re asked for a telephone number. If a phone number is ever removed from our system, POF will send a message via SMS letting us know.
Step 3: Delete your Profile
- Log in to POF and click on delete profile.
- Check the box next to, I have read and understand the consequences of deleting my profile.
- Enter your username and password (the same as when you created the account) into the empty boxes below that text.
- Press Delete My Profile button at the bottom of the page; one more confirmation screen will pop up with a link that reads, The things you posted are now gone forever in big letters.
- Press Okay and it’s done! Congratulations!
Step 4: Watch the fireworks go off!
After deleting your POF account, you might get a few emails about pending transactions. Just ignore them and they’ll go away. You’ll also see something in the app that looks like this:
This is just POF remembering that you had an account and trying to reactivate it. The easiest way to solve this is by doing nothing. Eventually, the app will remember that you don’t have an account and go back to normal.
Step 5: Archive everything
Once you have archived everything, it is time to go to the settings tab and click on Delete my profile. The final step is to write down the verification code that was texted or emailed. This will be used as confirmation in order for the account to be deleted.
To put it more bluntly, your life awaits you. And that is what matters most.
Dating sites and apps have played a pivotal role in helping people find love, but sometimes they can get in the way of finding it. If you are not having success with online dating, or if it is simply not for you, there is no shame in deleting your profile and starting fresh. There is always time for online dating again, so take a moment to close one chapter and open up another. Remember that as long as you are happy and living well, it does not matter what others think about your life choices!
Step 6: Take a deep breath and know you did it right.
You did it! You deleted your Plenty of Fish. Sure, you’ll need to come up with another way to find someone who wants the same things in life as you and is worth getting to know. But at least now you won’t have any concerns about getting messages from losers, or men using you for sex, or anyone trying to con you out of money. You’re in control now – and no one can take that away from you.
You may have been on POF for a while, but deleting your profile is actually pretty simple. Just go to preferences and click ‘Delete my profile.’ You’ll need a paid account (if you don’t already have one) but if you’re getting rid of it, what do you care? Deleting your profile will not only get rid of all those messages in your inbox, but it will stop anyone else from contacting you as well. Remember: profiles are permanent. It’s up to you whether or not you want yours active anymore. The choice is yours.
